International Reciprical Trade Association (IRTA)


The International Reciprocal Trade Association (IRTA) is the global trade association for the commercial barter industry. Founded in 1979, it aims to promote “just and equitable standards of practice and operation within the Modern Trade and Barter and other Alternative Capital Systems Industry, by raising the awareness and value of these processes to the entire Global Community” 1.  The association ensures the accountability fo its members, fosters equitable standards and implements codes of ethics.

According to 2013 figures, IRTA has more than 100 members, located in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Italy, Poland, Portugal, France, Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Jamaica, Turkey and Puerto Rico 2.  IRTA offer its own international trading network, the Universal Currency (UC), a global marketplace using trade credits.
